On 12 October 2008 the Australian Prime Minister announced deposits in all APRA regulated Authorised Deposit-taking Institutions (ADIs) would be guaranteed by the Australian Government. Subsequent to the announcement, the guarantee was capped at $1,000,000 per investor. This was effective from 28 November 2008.
