ABS Building Society Limited was formed in 1970 as a mutual organisation to harness the financial resources of the New England area and facilitate home-ownership by providing access to affordable loan funds on an ongoing basis to the residents of the New England.

While the role, services and area covered by ABS has expanded over the years, its mutual status and philosophy remain intact. Going forward, ABS seeks to maximise its strength as a regionally based financial institution for the mutual benefit of its members and the community it serves.
ABS is a public (non-listed) company limited by guarantee. Control of ABS rests with the Board of Directors who have the ultimate responsibility to the members for the strategy and performance of the Society in general. The Board is dedicated to fulfilling these duties in a lawful, professional manner with the utmost integrity and objectivity. As such, the Board actively pursues best practice governance processes.
The Society's objectives are: to offer a service that is equal to, or better than, the banks whilst maintaining a consistent profit margin; increasing products and services; investing in new technology and providing a safe, secure haven for members' savings.
